I hacked my tiny fkall script (that kills and restarts apps using more memories than specified) to use CocoaDialog and Growl to do OSX native dialog and growl notification. They're wrapped in a sub to gracefully fallback to STDERR based dialog if they're not installed. Tiny modification to the code just turns my few lines of perl script into something that looks like real OSX app. Neat.
I've been addicted to Nico Nico Douga for really a long time to enjoy watching some Anime shows (which are mostly copyright infringement and banned strictly recently), MAD (Japanese way of saying AMV/Mash-up videos) and Vocaloid (初音ミク etc.) indies music.
Recently I (re-)found another category that I really love: gameplay videos. You can watch these kinds of videos on other video sharing sites like YouTube, but Nico Nico is a bit different. The player usually talks and reacts during the play, and the watchers leave comment floating and time-synced ala Nico Nico style. By re-found I meant I really liked Nagai-Sensei's gameplay videos with his brother Hiro-kun, but haven't watched it for a while. So it's a re-discovery.
I just finished MOTHER gameplay by a girl named "Shushu". Her voice is definitely cute and the way she edits the video (to cut off boring part) is awesome. Click on the video to see how it looks like, even though the language she speaks might not make sense to you (Japanese) :)
It took me like 2 weeks since the whole gameplay is like 30 episodes, each of which runs 20 minutes or so. It's been an enjoyable moment. She just started MOTHER 2 (also known aka EarthBound in USA) so I'll watch the series as well. Nico Nico has 30,000 of these gameplay videos and there are lots of retro NES/SNES games like this, as well as new games on PS3/XBox360.
Went to the show by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes with the supporting act of Black Fag, the cover band of Black Flag. It was 21+ show and they played lots of songs including Over The Rainbow, Summertime, End of the world and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. The last time I saw them it was SUMMER SONIC 2005 in Tokyo and it was a gigantic stadium that had 20k attendees (the head-liner was Beastie Boys and Green Day). The Gimme Gimmes is not clearly the type of the band to play in the huge venue like that. Thee Parkside is just a bar and it only had 150 people or so. It was a great venue.
