My ThinkPad X40 @work recently gets really really slow. I've been accustomed to the slowness of it, but after 2 months of absence I used my home PC (Toshiba Dynabook SS S9 with Windows XP), it was way fast!
That reminds me I should reinstall XP again as a fresh install. I thought the coLinux (linux kernel inside windows) was the key to make it slow. I didn't take any backup and did initialization of the harddisk.
It's much faster now. I'm now to install vmware player instead of colinux, to play with Debian inside.
