Turn your ThinkPad into lightsaber
Recent IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad models have HDAPS (Hard Drive Active Protection System) support. HDAP's ShockMgr API is accessible to developers, by reverse engineering. For scripting languages like Perl, it's pretty straightforward to read the Accelerometer data from ShockMgr device. So here it comes: ThinkPad Saber. It would be familiar as a ThinkPad clone of MacSaber if you're a Mac Geek. The code is written in Perl, and is available at my public svn repository. You can also download the self executable package (of course for Win32) from releases directory.

Shigeta-san: Upload a video! just like this.

Miyagawa, you are a programming master and my respect for you runs deep, but that demonstration is a little pathetic. Have you seen macsaber? Thinksaber doesn't even compare!

David: yeah, i absolutely agree. This video was taken after my midnight hack was a bit boring. We need more fascinating video using multiple ThinkPads.

Is there a bluetooth interface for Perl as well? Because if we could affect the Saber sounds by proximity, that would rock.

Wow! This Google Maps hack is fantastic.
Posted by: david | 2006.06.14 at 07:05
David: Ah, that would be a brilliant idea to use bluetooth! Unfortunately my ThinkPad is X40 and without the BT, though.

Guys, I released ThinkPad Saber 0.22 which improves idle sound management, so it behaves more like MacSaber!

[this is good] Certainly. I agree with told all above. We can communicate on this theme.
