Japanese PM wants to enable DST, starting as soon as 2009.
I personally like Daylight Saving Time (I know most people hate it!) because it's great that it's still sunny when you leave your office.
But I'm sure it doesn't work that way in Japan, because they usually work from 9am to 10pm. It doesn't matter if your clock goes 1 hour earlier in that situation.
All you get with the daylight saving time is that you'll be in the office more hours under the sun, which means more air conditioning is necessary. Hence more energy consumption. Obvious.
In addition, that'll make the whole software industory in panic. Most software in Japan just assume that the UTC offset is +9, probably hard-coded. So, I'd say bury the idea.
